Latest rise in gas prices surprises some Flagler, Volusia consumers

The Daytona Beach News Journal -- Just a few weeks ago it looked as if gasoline prices could dip below $3 per gallon.

Now that seems more like a dream.

Filling her car's tank Wednesday at a Citgo station on Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast, where regular unleaded gas was selling for $3.35 per gallon, Amanda Holden smiled and shook her head. Just two weeks ago, it $3.17 per gallon.

"Why are (prices) going up all of a sudden?" Holden said. "I understood with the races it would happen, but why are they continuing to go up?"

Holden said dealing with rising gas prices is nothing new and she tries to plan her driving trips carefully.

"I've always tried to consolidate trips," she said. "I've been doing that for a long time."

As for the rise in prices, that is due to the volatility of the region from which we have chosen to get most of our oil.

Look at prices over the past years, and there's a pattern. People complain and cut back on driving, the price goes down a little, people start driving again, and the prices goes up higher than before. And it just keep happening over and over.
