Sooner or later it will dawn on everyone that unreliable sources like wind and solar power cannot supply all of our electricity needs. When that happens, nuclear power should be poised for a major comeback.

Great Plan, I can only hope it works out, But I know it is not of the Emperors list of Green Energy Sources. We already know Nuclear works better than Coal Fired, Natural Gas Fired or Diesel powered Generator Plants, is cheeper and longer lasting too, their fore it cant be a Renewable source of Money the the Backers and Bundelers for the Re-elect O'BACKSTABBER campaign that can make money from Failed Companies in the Green power industry while the Tax Paying Folks get dragged further into Debt. Only Progressive Socialists can think of devious plans such as they do. Had enough "Hope and Change Yet"?????

I for one would not want to see a nuclear reactor reactor in my back yard.

Does this mean that homeowners can operate their own nuclear reactor and sell the excess power back to the grid? Why does a huge company, like Westinghouse, need taxpayer funding to develop this technology? Since Pres. Carter outlawed reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, who is going to handle all the waste from these reactors?

What ever..... Between all the (DOE), (FOA), (SMR's). I lost track of what they are saying. I was always taught that if something is nasty, spell it. I think this is pretty nasty.

We need to quit giving out federal subsidies to every tom, dick & Harry out there who think they have a great idea. The US government has managed to get into debt up to their eye balls!! Enough already!! Quit spending money you don't have. We don't need the next 10 generations indebited to the world!!

If the waste issues can be solved maybe this would be an economic growth issue. They could also use Thorium fuel to prevent the fuel from going into weapons grade uranium.

I can’t totally agree with GasMonc but he is on the right track. Keep going with research on nuclear power but it is a fact that all current technology creates long-term hazardous waste and is subject to catastrophic failure. When those two issues are overcome we can reconsider building more nukes.

Has anyone told these groups that Nuclear is absolutely a no go? It's the dirtiest energy there is. Nuclear is defunct. Old 20th century cold war era technology. It's not just that it is unsafe and ALL reactors can melt down and that it is so unsafe that any accident is a catastrophic accident, it's that you just can not dispose of the waste. It can not be disposed of and no one wants to babysit it. What's more is it is a financial boondoggle. You get 40 years of electricity if you are lucky with 160 years of maintenance and decommissioning costs. It just does not make any sense whatsoever.
